One of the most common misconceptions about breast augmentation is that it’s all about size but when it comes to breast augmentation most patients desire to have cleavage rather than size. Cleavage (the space between your breasts) is an extremely important aesthetic sign of beautiful breast augmentation. However, it can take a particularly skilled plastic surgeon to achieve beautiful, natural-looking cleavage.
What causes cleavage?
Cleavage is the space between the breasts, and it can depend on many different factors like clothing, anatomy, and position. For some women, cleavage is a distinct, wide space through which bone structure and contours are visible. For others, cleavage is a telltale line where the two breasts meet together. Each woman’s cleavage is unique, but breast augmentation can achieve either type (and many differences in between) with the right techniques. It’s mostly dependent on your breasts, their position, distance, and the amount of skin.
Factors that affect cleavage after Breast Augmentation
Your breast augmentation surgeon will consider some factors during your initial consultation which include:
- Skin tightness and laxity
- The distance between your breasts
- The measurements and proportions of your torso and chest
These factors will affect the ideal location of your breast implant pockets.
How does a plastic surgeon create cleavage?
This can be a difficult question to answer since plastic surgeons can utilize many different techniques and assessments to create different kinds of cleavage for each unique patient. Generally, its success can depend on things like the distance between your natural breasts, the choice of your breast implant, skin laxity and elasticity, and existing breast tissue. Before breast augmentation, your surgeon will examine these factors to achieve your desired cleavage by bringing your breasts closer together or farther apart.
It’s also important to note that your breast cleavage will vary depending on what type of bra and clothing you are wearing. A more natural look, with the option of wearing a cleavage-inducing bra, will probably give you the most options long-term after your breast augmentation.
How can I obtain cleavage after my Breast Augmentation?
If you’ve already had breast augmentation and feel that your breasts are still too far apart in the middle, there are options including fat grafting or surgery to reposition the breast implant pocket to obtain the cleavage you want.
If your breasts are too close and your cleavage is narrow after your breast procedure, then typically repositioning your breast implant pockets will be able to address this issue.
