Massive weight loss surgery, also known as Bariatric Surgery, is a weight loss procedure that can help obese individuals lose substantial amounts of weight and improve their health. There are two types of surgeries that we perform, Restrictive and Malabsorptive surgeries.
Restrictive Surgeries

Am I a good candidate for massive weight loss surgery?
To be a good candidate for massive weight loss and body contouring cosmetic procedures you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- A high Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or greater with or without health issues related to obesity.

Consultation
All of our cosmetic procedures start with an appointment with our friendly expert, Mr Siddiqui. Can you ever eat normally after Bariatric Surgery?
For the first two weeks after your body contouring and bariatric surgery you can only consume liquid foods such as soup. In the third and fourth week after your surgery, you can slowly transition into soft foods, such as yoghurt. We recommend you wait until about three months after surgery to commence a regular diet, and even then we advise certain restrictions such as small portions, eating slowly, chewing each mouthful well and drinking plenty of water.

Yes, it is possible to have a combination of procedures done at the same time. With major weight gains, your skin elasticity can diminish so we can use different techniques to remove extra skin and fat. We can combine this surgery with a breast lift, tummy tucks (or belt lipectomy), body lifts, arm lifts, and lower body surgery such as thigh lifts. Any cosmetic surgery carries risks and potential complications. Massive weight loss and body contouring surgery can cause excessive bleeding, infection, wound dehiscence, dog ears (puckered scar tissue), breathing issues and more. All of these will be discussed in great detail at your appointment.
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty is generally considered one of the safest surgeries for dramatic weight loss. Many patients recover within two to three days and find the results permanent as long as they follow the advice of their surgeon.
Gastric bypass surgery generally results in the greatest loss of weight out of all the different bariatric surgical procedures. However, it is always best to discuss with Mr Siddiqui which particular type of surgery is best for you and your individual circumstances.
Bariatric surgery is considered highly effective to treat significant obesity and the medical problems associated with it. However, statistics show that 15-35% of bariatric surgery patients don’t reach their weight loss goal. This could be due to numerous reasons, such as not following the advice of their surgeon.
Weight loss procedures are a good option if you have not been able to lose weight with diet and exercise. These surgeries can be life-saving as they improve medical problems and decrease health risks associated with morbid obesity.
After gastric bypass surgery, you can lose 30% to 40% of your excess body weight. With a gastric banding procedure we find most patients lose 1 to 2 pounds per week for the first 6 months. After a year or two this weight loss will plateau and the patient will have lost 65% to 70% of their weight.
Most people will need to stay in the hospital for 2 to 3 days after their surgery for weight loss and body contouring. It can take up to 2 weeks to recover, and you can resume regular activities after 6 to 8 weeks under the advice of your surgeon.
The best way to sleep after your bariatric procedure for weight loss is on your back or side. You won’t be able to sleep on your stomach for the first 2 to 3 weeks after surgery as it can cause discomfort and breathing difficulties.
Constipation after surgery is common but there are several things you can do to help you poop. You can improve bowel function by increasing how much fibre you consume and drinking plenty of water. If you are still having difficulties you should talk to your surgeon.
You will notice an immediate difference in your weight and figure after we have removed excess skin and fat. However, for sustainable and effective weight loss, we recommend a slow but steady rate of loss. Losing 100 pounds will likely take at least 6 months to a year, and sometimes longer. But don’t be disheartened, this steady rate of loss ensures you will lose the pounds and keep them off.
