AÂ labiaplasty in the UK is for women who are unhappy with the size, shape or prominence of their labia. Labiaplasty surgery, otherwise known as labia reduction or vaginoplasty, removes excess skin and tissue from your vagina.
Labia reduction surgery in the UK can help women regain their body confidence and eliminate discomfort.
What is labiaplasty?
L abiaplasty is a surgical procedure performed to “tighten” and eliminate pain and discomfort by removing unwanted tissue and skin. This procedure changes the size and shape of the labia, making them smaller or correcting an asymmetry between labia.
If you’re considering a labiaplasty in the UK, contact Breast & Body Clinic to make an appointment with our Consultant Plastic Surgeon, Mr Siddiqui.
Why women choose to undergo labia surgery in the UK
The lips of the vagina naturally come in all different sizes and shapes. However, due to varying factors like hormones, lifestyle, ageing, body shape and childbirth, the size and shape of your labia minora and majora can change and end up causing pain, discomfort or emotional distress. Women choose to have this procedure because:
- Vaginal childbirth has changed the shape or size of your vagina.
- Labial appearance makes you self-conscious and unhappy.
- You are uncomfortable when participating in simple activities like walking or cycling.
- You feel pain or discomfort during sexual intercourse.
- Enlarged or elongated labia cause discomfort when wearing tight clothing, underwear or bathers.
No matter your reason for wanting to reduce the size of the labia in the UK, we offer friendly, discrete service to guide you through this procedure.

What are the different types of labiaplasty?
The labia minora (the inner skin flaps) and labia majora (outer lips) make up your vagina. There are two general approaches to reducing the size of the labia:
Trim Procedure
The trim technique removes excess skin from the outer edge of one of both sides of your labia minora. The aim of this is to reduce the size so that it’s even with or receded from the edges of your labia majora.
Wedge Procedure
This method removes a wedge shape (or V-shaped) of tissue from both sides of the labia and then stitches the remaining edges together. This reduces the length of your flaps and “tightens” your vagina.
Which procedure is the right one for me?
When you have your initial appointment with our Mr Siddiqui, he will conduct a physical examination and discuss your symptoms and medical history. Together, you will decide which procedure will help alleviate your discomfort and pain and produce an aesthetic result you will be pleased with.
What are the risks and complications of labia reduction surgery?
The risks and potential complications of cosmetic treatment for labial reduction are:
- Decreased vulvar sensitivity
- Chronic dryness
- Scarring may result in painful vaginal penetration during sexual intercourse.
- Bleeding
- Infection
- Swelling, bruising, discomfort and pain
Mr Siddiqui will discuss all these risks and complications prior to your procedure, and how they would be treated if you have them.
Labial reduction surgery helps alleviate discomfort, pain and embarrassment as women feel self-conscious due to enlarged labial lips.
How does plastic surgery for labia reduction work?
Surgical procedures to reduce the size of the labia are a relatively straightforward procedure in Manchester. Labiaplasty will begin with a consultation at a labiaplasty clinic, like our Breast & Body Clinic in the UK.
Consultation
Your first labiaplasty consultation with Mr Siddiqui will cover a physical assessment, a discussion of any medical conditions, goals and expectations and any questions or concerns you have about labial reduction.
Pre-surgery
Prior to your labial reduction procedure, we provide some guidelines and advice to ensure optimum recovery. We ask that you stop taking blood thinners and herbal supplements for two to four weeks prior to your procedure. You should try to get plenty of sleep the night before your procedure and don’t eat or drink for eight hours before surgery.
Day of Surgery
On the day of your surgery, you will be given a local anaesthetic and a general anaesthetic so you don’t move or feel pain during the procedure. Mr Siddiqui will proceed with your procedure using the method you decided on during your initial consultation.
Recovery
There will be some swelling, bruising and soreness during the healing process. This is normal and usually settles in the first few days to weeks. We recommend you wear loose clothing and avoid exercise and swimming. Full recovery can take up to six weeks.

FAQs
If you have any questions or concerns about labiaplasty in the UK, please don’t hesitate to contact us to talk about them. In the meantime, you may find the answers you are looking for in the most frequently asked questions below.
A labiaplasty surgery is meant to be a one-time, long-lasting procedure. We strongly recommend you wait to have this procedure until you are sure you won’t have any more children as a vaginal delivery could impact your labia surgery results.
Here at Breast & Body Clinic, Manchester we want you to know that there are no “normal” labia. Every female’s genitals are different shapes and sizes, just as every individual is unique. They only become an issue if they are causing pain during sexual activity or sports, or emotional distress.
You can be bruised and swollen for the first few weeks after your labiaplasty procedure, which can make urinating painful. This is completely normal and can be relieved by peeing in the shower or running warm water over your genitals as you pee.
You can gently wash your incisions with warm water and soap to clean labiaplasty stitches. Our UK surgeon recommends you then gently pat dry and apply a light layer of vaseline.
Our surgeons recommend you allow your body time to rest and heal, so avoid any physical activity even walking for the first 2 days.
No, labiaplasty does not affect sensation. Dr Siddiqui only removes tissue, which doesn’t have any nerve endings. These procedures can also incorporate clitoral hood reduction, which exposes the clitoris to more sensation.
Our surgeons strongly advise you to wait at least 4 weeks before engaging in sexual intercourse post your procedure. This gives your body time to heal.
You can combine a labiaplasty with a clitorial hood reduction.
