Thigh Reduction in Manchester, Chester, Preston

Thigh Reduction

Thigh Reduction surgery is also known as "Thighplasty". It is a surgical procedure that aims to smooth and reshape the upper thighs by removing loose skin or fat. Thigh lift surgery or thigh reduction is a way to achieve the firmer and attractive upper legs that you always dreamed about. It is growing in popularity especially among those who have lost substantial amounts of weight and have loose skin on their thighs or they find unattractive.

The upper legs especially the thighs are a problem area for both men and women. As we age it becomes very difficult to get rid of the fat on thighs, as the fat becomes resistant to diet and exercise, even if you exercise too much. The problem with the fat on thighs is that it make you look fatter, older and weaker at the same time. Even if you lose the weight, the excess skin remains there and it can make you very self-conscious about your appearance.

 Why it's done

  • Restore your self-assurance and confidence regarding your body
  • Your thighs will be firmer, smooth and more youthful.
  • Eliminates chafing between the thighs
  • Your body will appear more shapely and proportional.

If you too have been having difficulty in keeping your thigh toned, even after losing a lot of weight and following a healthy lifestyle, then a thigh lift surgery can be the ideal solution for you. It is important to keep in mind that a thighplasty is not a procedure that can aid weight loss. Our surgeons strongly advise that you reach a stable weight before you have your surgery.

Frequently Asked questions about Thigh Reduction Surgery

Patients request this procedure for the treatment of excessive skin on the inner aspect of their thighs.
Patients develop sagging or wrinkling of skin on the inside of the thigh as a result of excessive weight loss or as part as the normal process of ageing.
Patients with this condition are self-conscious and embarrassed about the appearance of their thighs. They do not like the wrinkling on the inside of the thigh and the excessive skin and fat just above the knee. In addition they also suffer physical discomfort as the insides of the thighs rub against each other causing chafing. The condition is also uncomfortable in hot weather due to sweating.
This condition can be treated by surgery, which is carried out under general anaesthetic. It involves removal of excess skin and fat on the inner aspect of the thigh. The resulting scar is usually well hidden in the groin and in the inner aspect of the thigh.
Most patients spend one night in hospital after this operation.
Following the operation the surgeon may put a drain (a plastic tube) underneath the skin which stays in place for approximately 24 hours. This is removed the day following surgery. The patient is usually able to have a shower and change of dressings before being discharged from hospital.
Complications from this procedure can include bleeding, haematoma, infection, visible scars, a change of sensation in the skin and asymmetry. A small percentage (usually less than 5%) of patients may require a secondary revision.
Most normal activities can be resumed after thigh lift(reduction) surgery. Short walks, light housework, and driving are good activities that will not delay your recovery. In fact, they can help in blood circulation which is necessary. The swelling will continue to reduce as you recover but may take up to six months to fully recover. Most patients can return to work within 2-3 weeks, depending on your job.
Like other plastic surgeries, thigh reduction surgery are considered to be a major procedures and you'll need to take time off work to recover. You'll experience some level of discomfort, pain, bruising, and swelling for a few days after the procedure. Your surgeon will provide you with some medication and other instructions to help relieve your symptoms.
The recovery time for a thigh lift(reduction) may vary depending on whether you opt for an outer thigh lift, an inner thigh lift, or both. Most patients should take off from work for around 2-3 weeks so that you can heal fast while at home. In general, however, most people will need to take it easy for the first couple of weeks and can resume normal activities after four to six weeks. Although most swelling should be gone by this time, some patients might experience swelling lasting up to 12 months after their procedure.
Thigh lift scars are generally T-shaped and the extent of your scar will vary depending on if you are undergoing an inner thigh lift or a full medial thigh lift that may extend to the knee. Because of their location, you should be able to hide the scar beneath your undergarments or bikini bottoms. At initial stage the scar will appear crinkled and starts getting smooth after a period of 4-6 weeks. Like any surgery, scarring after a thigh lift is inevitable, but our surgeons perform the procedure in a way that typically allows patients to conceal the mark.
