What is lipo-abdominoplasty?

An abdominoplasty or tummy tuck is a procedure where excess skin and fat is removed from lower abdomen. When this is combined with liposuction to improve shape or do sculpting the waist or flank, it is called lipo-abdominoplasty.

In a standard abdominoplasty, the incision is made in lower abdomen from hip bone to hip bone and skin is raised upto chest. Then the six pack muscles are tightened and excess skin in the lower abdomen is taken out. Then the belly button is sited at the new place and wounds are closed. This procedure gives a good results in front of the tummy both in upper and lower part. This can be combined with lifting the mon pubis in some cases to improve the appearance of the area.

In lipo-abdominoplasty, the above procedure is combined with sculpting the waist line or flanks with liposuction. This greatly improves the contour of the area and gives a very pleasing results for the patient.

The lipo-abdominoplasty involves using a solution to infiltrate the area of liposuction. The areas are marked in standing position before the operation. Then liposuction is performed to the areas during the operation. There are no additional cuts for this procedure.

After surgery, patient goes in the same pressure garments as for standard abdominoplasty. The post operative recovery is very similar to the standard abdominoplasty. There could be some additional bruises on the flanks from this procedure which settles down in few days. The swelling takes few weeks to go away. The patients can start to see the difference as soon as the swelling starts to settle down.

Generally this procedure has very high satisfaction rates among patients.
